Dr. Jeffrey Friedman, MD

Internal Medicine Physician · Community Health Associates, Newtown, CT

Dr. Friedman has practiced internal medicine in Newtown for nearly 40 years, and he founded and still leads Community Health Associates. In that time much of Connecticut's primary care has been bought by large hospital systems. This practice has not been, and that is a deliberate choice: it means every treatment decision is made between a doctor and a patient, with no third party setting the pace.

Internal medicine is adult primary care in its fullest sense — the annual physical, the chronic conditions that need watching year after year, the acute problem that turns up on a Tuesday, and the coordination with specialists that keeps all of it coherent. Patients who have been with Dr. Friedman for twenty years describe the same thing: a doctor who knows their history without looking it up.

What he focuses on

  • Comprehensive adult primary care and annual physical exams
  • Long-term management of chronic conditions
  • Preventive care and age-appropriate screening
  • Coordination of specialist care and hospital follow-up
  • MDVIP concierge medicine, including the MDVIP Annual Wellness Program

About Dr. Friedman's MDVIP practice

MDVIP is a concierge model built around a much smaller patient panel. Members get same-day or next-day appointments, direct after-hours access to Dr. Friedman, longer and unhurried visits, and an advanced annual wellness evaluation that goes well beyond a standard physical. Membership is an annual fee that is separate from your insurance — your insurance still covers office visits, referrals, and hospital care as it always has.

Cheryl Rosenthal, APRN

Advanced Practice Registered Nurse · Community Health Associates, Newtown, CT

Cheryl is an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse, which means she can serve as your primary care provider: she examines, diagnoses, orders and interprets tests, prescribes, and manages ongoing conditions. She sees patients of all ages, from young adults establishing care for the first time to older patients managing several conditions at once.

Her particular focus is women's health, which she approaches as a moving target rather than a fixed checklist — the screenings, questions, and risks that matter in your thirties are not the ones that matter in your sixties. Patients consistently describe her the same way: thorough, patient, and someone who actually listens.

What she focuses on

  • Family medicine and primary care for patients of all ages
  • Annual physicals and preventive care
  • Women's health, including age-appropriate preventive screening
  • Ongoing management of chronic health conditions
  • Same-week and walk-in visits for acute concerns

Cheryl writes about preventive screening for women decade by decade in Women's Health Screenings by Age.
